Misery or Growth?

This image may just look like a standard interview. But, it speaks a 1000 words to me. #tbt to when i placed 2nd at my last major bodybuilding contest.

Here’s my perspective of what happened and how i think.

Talking from experience, one of the greatest ways to chip away at your motivation is to constantly compare where you are currently to the best in the world.

This can relate to anything from business right through to how you look.

In business you’ll hear of person X dominating the marketplace by earning y, having a mailing list or following x10 the size of yours.

In fitness, you’ll see people who are ten times in better shape than you, ten times stronger and get ten times the attention than you do.

Don’t get me wrong benchmarks and sources of inspiration are good.

However, it’s easy to overlook how far you’ve come on your personal journey and get distracted by comparing yourself to others.

Realise, your success has nothing to do with how successful other people are. What matters more is how much personal progress you’ve made since starting out.

You bet you’re in a far better place from where you started.

You bet you’ve met some incredible people along the way.

You bet you’ve made some mistakes but also learnt some valuable life lessons that will serve you a lifetime.

You bet your health is far better than it used to be.

On the other hand, you could always doubt yourself, never enjoy the process, never be happy with the progress and just view business and fitness as nothing other than a big headache and utter misery.

It’s up to you which way you think, and it takes practice to feel either way.
