The Massive Secret To Customer Success

Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to give a Ted talk.

For those of you that know me quite well, you’ll know: I love public speaking. It’s where I feel I’m at my most impactful.

But despite that, I say no to most invitations.

Why?

It protects my bandwidth. If it’s not a “hell yes” offer, it’s something I turn down.

And the longer you’re in business, the more you’ll need to have automatic decision making guiding your decisions.

The truth is, when you start, you should take as many opportunities as you can that align with your mission. 

Whether you’re driven by money, impact, or freedom – you need to get in front of people and spread your vision.

After a while, you need to be more selective. Start saying no to the wrong opportunities. 

But the chance to deliver a life changing impact on the Ted stage was something I didn’t want to miss.

Why the customer is nearly always wrong.

The reality is, if your customer had all the answers, they would have solved their problem already. They wouldn’t need your help.

It’s your job to bring your market to truth, realign their vision on what’s really possible, and deliver an exceptional result to them.

And that doesn’t need simpering cheerleading coaches. Pats on the back and “try again next week” attitudes.

It requires a willingness to have challenging conversations. Leaders who will put the mission above their own comfort, and say what needs to be said. 

This is when change happens, and it likely won’t happen without discomfort. If you’re unwilling to lead that way?
