5 Life Lessons Every Personal Trainer & Gym Owner Must Master

5 Life Lessons Every Personal Trainer & Gym Owner Must Master

One of the most important principles in building a powerful business is learning to master your mind. Business success is directly proportionate to your level of self-belief and emotional resilience. That’s why I’m huge on teaching personal development in all of my fitness business mentorship and mastermind programs.

If you think personal development is all airy-fairy, I get it. There’s a lot of fluff out there and it can be difficult to take the whole ‘mindset’ thing seriously. However, don’t underestimate the power of having a clear mind. If your head’s full of resentment, guilt and anger it’s hard to function, serve others, be creative and lead a great life.

A common misconception is thinking that money is the answer to all your problems.

That’s one of the main reasons you’re on this site. To learn how you can make more money from your fitness business? Right?

It doesn’t matter how much money you make – it won’t make you happy if your minds not in the right place.  Just look at all the celebrates who lose their minds, despite living with abundant wealth?

Moving on, I want to share 5 Important life lessons that I feel are essential for developing emotional intelligence…

Society has conditioned us to believe that loving ourselves is a bad thing and the height of narcissism. However, that all depends on the context.

If you don’t love yourself, you will rely on the opinion of others to feel loved and accepted. As a result, you become dependent, afraid to say now and make most of your decisions to please others at the expense of your happiness.

On the other hand, when you learn to love yourself you have an inner belief that no matter what you do or don’t do in life, you’re worthy of love.

The more love and appreciation you have, the more worthy and deserving you feel. This will have a tremendous carry over to business performance and success, as you won’t be afraid to fail and be willing to take bold action.

Learning to love yourself takes time, retrospection and a willingness to surrender your ego.

While humility may be uncomfortable in the moment, it’s the most effective catalyst for personal and business development. It immediately forces you to reevaluate how you’re living your life and running your business. When you’re pumped up with pride it’s easy to get complacent and attract humiliating situations to bring you back into line. As the saying goes, ‘pride comes before a fall.’

How has humility developed you over the years? While embarrassing, what did you learn about yourself?

Think. What do you do more of now that you didn’t do before when you were once humiliated?

Now do you see why humility is so valuable?

If everyone was supportive you wouldn’t feel the need to do anything in life. As a result, you’d become dependent, complacent and completely lacking in skills. On the other hand, if everyone challenged you, you’d burn out emotionally and physically.

Challenging people and situations keep you on your toes and transform you into a better human being, provided you evaluate and become aware of the lesson.

Supportive people do the work you hate and pick you up when you’re feeling down. Be grateful for the challenges and opportunities in your life, seek support but don’t rely on it.

As Dan Pena once said, ‘Show me your friends, and I’ll show you your future…’

Strive to hang around with people that lift your soul, intellectually stimulate your mind and challenge you to do better in business.

If you can’t find anyone local put yourself in a position to be around like-minded people and peers. Pay to pay if you have to.

The networking benefits of joining a high-quality mastermind like my very own Authority Network can be life-changing.

Quit trying to be the showman. Does a rich man need to tell you he’s rich?

Let your results speak for themselves. Preserve your time and energy for more important aspects of building your business and life

The amateur plays at the performance. The professional plays in-between the performance.

As John Wooden said, “The true test of a man’s character is what he does when no one is watching.
