How To Upgrade Your Peer Group and Grow Your Fitness Business

Many fitness business owners know their current peer group isn’t serving them and is holding them back from growing their business. As a result, they procrastinate and get frustrated hanging around the same old people.

You know you need to upgrade your peer group when the chat is empty and leads to nothing, a peer group that talks about business, health, fitness mindset and personal mastery is the one you need to be in. Having been in this industry for nearly 15 years I’m always looking to push myself and surround myself with a network of people that inspire me to grow. As the saying goes, your network is your net worth. And, in order to get to where you want to go in life, you will get there far quicker by standing on the shoulders of giants. In this article I want to share three key tips for growing your network…


If you want to upgrade your network you need to buy your access to an event, workshop or mastermind. Or, you could pay in blood, sweat and tears by achieving something great and establishing yourself as a go-to expert in a particular field. One of the biggest misconceptions that many fitness business owners have is that they’re going to lose money when they invest in a Mastermind or goto a workshop. This is a very poor way to think. What’s the worst that can happen? You walk away with more knowledge, get to surround yourself with like-minded people and get constructive feedback on everything you are doing.Investing in yourself is the best investment you can make. If you’re not willing to invest in yourself how can you breakthrough old thinking patterns and make progress with your business. You need to get amongst high achievers and model their thinking.



Before you upgrade your peer group it’s important to realise that every human, has good and bad sides, is good at some things and bad at other things. One of the biggest problems I see when people try to upgrade their peer group is constantly comparing themselves to the best in the group. This leads them to over exaggerate what someone one is good at and under-exaggerate what they’re bad at. This gives a false set of unrealistic expectations to live by resulting in low self-worth. This isn’t how you want to feel whenever you’re trying to upgrade your network and better yourself.

Don’t look at other people success and belittle yourself. Use it as inspiration.

Success leaves clues…Pay close attention to the thinking, behaviours and actions of those you admire in your field. Don’t copy their tactics – model their thinking.



Most people seek feedback from completely the wrong type of people (usually close friends and family), usually a result of staying within their comfort zone. This is a bad move.

Why would you let anyone else give you feedback or influence your life/business decisions when they haven’t experienced what you want to be.

The right feedback is essential for growth and development. The wrong feedback will cost you a lot of time, money, energy and opportunity. That’s exactly why you need to be amongst a peer group of like-minded people with similar goals to you.
